Lorna Brooke has passed away

Amateur rider Lorna Brooke who was critically injured in a fall at Taunton on April 8 has tragically died from her injuries.

A statement released by the Injured Jockeys Fund this morning said: "It is with deep sadness that we have to share the tragic news that Lorna Brooke passed away yesterday."

"Her family thank everyone for their kindness in the last ten day, particularly the staff at Southmeads Hospital who were so professional. The family will be having a private funeral and will hold a celebration of Lorna's life once Covid-19 restrictions allow. Any donations to go to Injured jockeys fund."

The 37-year-old rode several times in Ireland during her 20 years as an Amateur jockey and won the first Ladies Riders Handicap Chase at Fairyhouse in November 2015 when partnering Paul Stafford's Moonlone Lane.

Lorna beat Katie Walsh into second that day at Fairyhouse with Lizzie Kelly in third and Rachael Blackmore in fourth.
