Loughran swoops late on Jack

Roger Loughran conjured a terrific late effort from Pistol Jack to get up close home in the Downtown Radio Handicap Hurdle at Down Royal.

The race looked like developing into a duel between Aladdins Cave and Uncommited but Dessie Hughes' charge swooped late to trump the pair.

It was a local success with owner Donald King hailing from Bryansford in County Down.

The winner was gaining compensation having just lost out himself at the track on his previous start.

"He wasn't going to be left in front again!" said Hughes.

"He rode him well but I was surprised he handled that ground as he loves it quicker.

"The owners are taking him home this evening and he'll come back in the spring. The ground is only going to get heavier and he doesn't handle it. He's also been in training a long time.

"He'll have a summer campaign over fences. He's an out-and-out chaser."
