Rookie trainer Sarah Lynam did something her Group 1 winning father, trainer Eddie Lynam had failed to do when supplying her uncle Bryan Lynam with a first Irish winner at Fairyhouse today, as Only The Brave landed the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Claiming Race.

Ridden under a feather weight of 8st4lbs by 5lbs claimer Danny Sheehy, the daughter of Exchance Rate, an unlucky in-running fourth at the Curragh two starts ago, improved to lead inside the final furlong before eventually beating Facethepuckout by half a length.

Sarah Lynam, notching her third career winner in her first year with a license, later said “it's brilliant because my uncle Bryan owns her and it's his first ever winner in Ireland; he's had a few with Dad and they haven't won so this is super and now I can boast a little bit tonight!

“Bryan lives in Ireland and in France and has been very lucky in France but this is his first winner over here.”

Regarding Only The Brace, which subsequently went unclaimed along with the entire field, she added “she deserved it as she's been knocking on the door a bit.

“She was wandering around a little bit and Danny said there will probably be another day in her, so fingers crossed no-one claims her.

“Hopefully she'll come out of this okay - I don't think she exerted herself too much!”
