Magdoodle battles hard to claim last

Magdoodle rallied gamely to land the spoils in the concluding 2m6f handicap hurdle at Thurles.

Barry Cash drove his mount into the lead before the third last but she looked booked for second when headed by Castle Ranger two from home.

The Mark Doyle-trained Blueprint mare stuck on doggedly to challenge again as they bypassed the final flight and got up in the closing stages for a length-and-a-quarter success. Lookoutnow stayed on back in third, just a half-length behind the front pair.

Stamina is obviously the key for the winner, who scored over 2m7f at Navan on her previous start.

"I've had her in since she was three and she's had her problems," said Dunlavin handler Doyle, who trains the mare for his father Noel.

"I've had a licence for six years but we only have a few horses on the go. We've no real plans for her and we'll she how she comes out of it before we see what to do."

The last was bypassed after three horses, D's Trix Summer Surprise and Moving On crashed out on the previous circuit.

Andrew McNamara was attended to and was later reported to have been briefly unconscious.

"He was briefly unconscious but he's come too now and hopefully he's OK," said his father, also Andrew.
