Marnane has big prizes in mind now for Alfredo

"He's always had the potential to be a nice horse. He did well to do what he did up at Dundalk as a three-year-old," said trainer David Marnane after Alfredo Arcano took the Keadeen Hotel Supporting Newbridge Parish Handicap at the Curragh.

Oisin Orr did the steering on the 12/1 shot and though last year's winner Rattling Jewel made a bold bid, he eventually had to yield by three parts of a length.

Indeed just over a length and a quarter split the first four home here, Brave Display and Nigg Bay filling the third and fourth spots.

"He would have needed the first run and will probably come on for that again," elaborated Marnane.

"I suppose the Rockingham and the Scurry are the two races and I think he might be better in a big handicap, going a better gallop and getting a bit more cover.

"I couldn't be happier with him. They were good horses and it'll be the same horses in the Rockingham with a few English in there as well probably.

"He's still doing things a little bit wrong. He's a bit keen early doors so maybe a little bit of cover and that run under his belt will help. He's definitely growing up now so fingers crossed."

The Stewards enquired into an incident in the final two furlongs involving Snowstar ridden by N.M. Crosse, Nigg Bay, ridden by D.W. O'Connor, and Brave Display, ridden by S.P. Davis, where it appeared Snowstar checked.

Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.

Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that S.P. Davis was in breach of Rule 214 by riding carelessly and having taken his record into account suspended him for one race day.

S.P. Davis, rider of Brave Display trained by P.J.Prendergast, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount ran around.
