Once Maudlin Magdalen (15/2) took over at the head of affairs from Red Laser in the mile handicap at Dundalk, the result was never in doubt.

The win took jockey Ben Curtis off the cold list and he was seen to good effect steering her to the head of proceedings at the two furlong pole. She quickly put daylight between herself and the field. Campestral Scene (9/2f) was beaten into second by three lengths with Khelino at 12s in third.

“She’s not the easiest and is a bit tricky, but he always had ability. They had her in good form and she won well,” Ben Curtis commented.

There were some delighted Dundalk punters as Maudlin Magdalen was supported down from 10/1 to 15/2 at the track. Plenty also held tickets on Campestral Scene – 7/1 to 9/2.

This was Curtis’s first win for 86 mounts.
