Ambrose McCurtin broke the dominance of Paul Townend and Jody McGarvey at Limerick when getting on the scoresheet in race six aboard Karl Thornton's winner, Paper Lantern in the Book Online 19 Euro Punter Pack Handicap Chase.

After already riding two winners McGarvey was still in with a chance until late in the day in this event too. However his mount White Arm couldn't bridge the gap to the in-form Paper Lantern, and there was two lengths between them at the finish.

Indeed Townend, bidding for a four-timer, ended up five and a half lengths back on Donie Murphy's third placer, Bothair Clei

"He's been a great servant to win three races. If it hadn't been on the outside track here I wouldn't have even declared him because he needs a galloping track. He'll go for something similar," commented Thornton.

B.T. O'Connell, rider of Oscar Lantern trained by C.Byrnes, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount stopped quickly and was pulled up.

R.P. Treacy, rider of Cappacurry Zak trained by L.Young, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount got very tired in the closing stages and was pulled up.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Cappacurry Zak, trained by L.Young, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to have lost a left fore shoe and coughing post race.
