Monastrell wins again after his holidays

Davy Russell looked like he was on the way to a Naas double when looking over his shoulder aboard Far Away So Close on the run-in at Naas but it wasn't to be for the favourite in the Weatherbys Ireland GSB Beginners Chase as Monastrell came home best to score.

Davy Condon, beaten by a nose in the previous contest on Noel Meade's Fully Funded gained compensation here for the Tu Va handler as Monastrell, a second time out over fences son of Terimon stormed home.

Monastrell won on his debut in a Down Royal bumper in November 2009. He also scored at the Maze last November when coming off a break.

It is safe to say therefore that Monastrell goes well fresh as he was winning here off the back of a 209 day absence from the track. (EM)
