Grand National winning jockey Niall 'Slippers' Madden hopes to be back in action early next month as he continues his recovery from a fall at Southwell almost five weeks ago.

Madden, who is now based with trainer Harry Fry, fractured his arm following a fall from Henryville on August 20th but is due back with his specialist next week.

“I will be visiting my specialist on Thursday and hopefully get the cast off then,” Madden told irishracing.com.

“Once I get the all clear from my specialist I’ll go to Oaksey House for my rehab and all going well I’ll be back riding in early October. No matter what time of the year it is you don’t like to be out injured, especially when Dad, (Niall Madden snr) has had a few runners but Harry has a lot to look forward to for the winter and I just can’t wait to get back going again.

“It was Henryville I got the fall off but it was also him that gave me my biggest winner of last season at Cheltenham and things were going well with Harry. He has some smart horses and is an exciting trainer to be attached to. I’d still plan on getting back to Ireland in the winter for racing on Sunday’s or days that I’m not needed over here.”
