The John Geoghegan trained, owned and bred Massa Lubrense gained a deserved first win at Dundalk this evening, landing the www.dundalkstadium.com Maiden narrowly, under jockey Dylan Hogan.

The son of Intense Focus had finished second and third from his four previous starts and today finished well to edge past Dhafeera close home, for a neck win.

Afterwards Geoghegan said “he did it well and he (Dylan Hogan) gave him a great ride. He needs to be delivered late and that's what he did.

The last day in Fairyhouse it didn't pan out for him and he was in front too soon and stuck the head up the air and was looking around him.

“It's the first winner of the mare (Lake Pontchartrain, whom Geoghegan trained to win four of her six races), who was a good mare but the first two foals had problems and he's the third and is the first winner. She was a good mare and went up to a 96 rating; he (Massa Lubrense) mightn't get up as high as that but he'll do okay and will be a nice handicapper for next year.”
