The Ger Lyons trained Ardhoomey recorded his sixth career success, as he just got the better of Gorane in the Listed Sole Power Sprint Stakes.

Having won four times in 2016, one of which was at Group 2 level, the son of Dark Angel failed to get his head in front in nine starts last year.

He was however second in this race twelve months ago, going down by just half a length to Acapulco.

Sent off at 7/1 today, the six-year-old gelding raced just off the pace in the far side group.

He was pushed along to challenge from the furlong pole, and just gained the upper hand in the closing stages, prevailing by a head.

Gorane had to settle for second, and she was returned at 6/1 under Declan McDonogh for Henry de Bromhead. Gymkhana (16s to 12s) completed the placings another two lengths back in third, while the 6/4 favourite Kyllang Rock was a disappointing sixth.

"We love him. With him and Brendan Brackan in the yard you are in safe hands," said Lyons.

"Colin said he got tired at the end and he thought she (Gorane) was going to get back up and do him.

"He's one of those old age pensioners in the yard that does what it says on the tin. I'm delighted to have him.

"His wind doesn't seem to be as bad this year as it has started on other years. He should improve from that.

"This winter we've said we wouldn't mind having a go at seven at some stage. If his wind allows us that's what we'd like to do.

"It's just fun with him. Whatever presents itself, and while he's around and has a heartbeat, we'll partake and have fun with him."

STEWARDS REPORT

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Kyllang Rock, trained by James Tate (in GB), at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be lame behind post race.
