Preview ballinrobe 24th Jul

A big pot is up for grabs in the Win Big With Tote Handicap, the feature race at Ballinrobe on Monday evening.

Palmone bids for a double after a victory over this course and distance 27 days ago and Michael Flannery's charge may not be halted by a 5lb rise for that effort.

The dangers look to be Vastonea, a Kevin Prendergast inmate who is expected to strip fitter for his reappearance at Navan earlier in the month, and Mick Halford's Castle Guest, who is slipping back down the ratings.

Racing gets underway at 5.35 with the Tote Claiming Race, in which Six Silver Lane attempts to follow up his recent victory in this grade at Dundalk.

The Joseph O'Brien-trained Thomas O'Malley has experience on his side in the Win Big With Tote Maiden and should appreciate the drop back to 10 furlongs, although Winston Wolfe is a big player on the back of a neck second at Dundalk.

O'Brien also has good claims with Detailed in the Tote Handicap as the son of Motivator looks to build on an encouraging second at Hamilton, while his handler tries High Tide on the Flat for the first time in the Win Big With Tote Maiden having landed a bumper in March.

However, the latter has High Haven to contend with and Willie Mullins' four-year-old has run well in second on both starts to date, including when beaten a nose over this track and trip last time out.

Usa will have to defy top weight if he's to land the Tote Apprentice Handicap but Stephen Mahon's veteran does arrive on the back of two good efforts at this venue.

He will need to be on top of his game, though, if he's to successfully concede weight to the likes of Tony Martin's Dara Tango and the Gordon Elliott-trained High Expectations, who scored at Ayr on his penultimate outing.

Jim Bolger could get on the scoresheet when his recent Roscommon winner Slaney Street aims for a follow up in the Tote Handicap.
