A couple of former Galway Plate heroes head the list for the 2017 Guinness Kerry National Handicap Chase at Listowel.

Lord Scoundrel won the Ballybrit highlight last year but was only eighth when attempting to defend his crown, two positions in front of 2014 Plate winner Road To Riches.

Slowmotion and A Toi Phil were third and fourth at Galway and will be on plenty of shortlists as they step up to three miles, while the Willie Mullins-trained Arbre De Vie was sixth and then took the scalp of classy stablemate Shaneshill a few days later.

Gordon Elliott does well with novices in handicaps and that hasn't gone unnoticed by punters, with Potters Point towards the head of the ante-post market.

Elliott's Dorans River tops the weights for the Ballygarry House Hotel Novice Hurdle but is the only one of the four runners not to arrive in winning form.

Fabulous Saga made a sparkling jumping debut at Ballinrobe, while Young Turk struck at Bellewstown and Balakani was impressive at Killarney.

There are Listed honours up for grabs in the Edmund & Josie Whelan Memorial Listowel Stakes, which sees the reappearance of Zawraq.

The one-time Derby favourite has only been seen once since landing Leopardstown's 2,000 Guineas Trial in the spring of 2015 and must concede race-fitness to Mullins' up-and-coming Riven Light.

Zawraq's trainer Dermot Weld has a strong chance in the Seamus Mulvaney Handicap, with Newcross stepping outside of maiden company for the first time.

Perfect Solider also tackles his first handicap when he goes to post for the Listowel Arms Handicap, while recent winners Cracking Name and Ojinjintka do battle in the opening Exchange Inn Ballybunion & Kevin Broderick's Bar Listowel Handicap at 2.05.

Wonder Laish was once a smart Flat handicapper for William Haggas, and Charles Byrnes now tries him over obstacles in the M.S.D Animal Health Maiden Hurdle.
