The Gavin Cromwell-trained Prospectus made it two from three over hurdles when staying on stoutly to land the spoils in the opening four-year-old hurdle at Fairyhouse this afternoon.
9/4 faourite Dakota Moirette cut out the running in the two-miler and looked in command turning for home.
Brien Kane got a good tune from Prospectus in the closing stages, however, as he chased down the front-runner on the run-in to record a length-and-a-quarter success at odds of 3/1.
Prospectus had won on his hurdling debut at the course last month when also beating Dakota Moirette.
The Sakhee gelding was bought for 20,000gns last October and now races for the nine member McAlpine Syndicate which includes racing journalists Dave Keena and Denis Kirwan along with Brendan Swan, a former one arm golf champion.
“Some of the lads were saying they were a little bit worried but I wasn’t. He’s actually gotten a bit lazy, which is grand, but he picked up well and went to the line well,” said Cromwell.
“I would have rather the ground was a bit softer because of the way he won on heavy ground here the last day.
“It wasn’t a bad little race and you’d have to be happy with that.
“There is no real plan. It’s day by day and see what way he progresses.
“I wouldn’t say he disappointed the last day, it was a bit of shock to the system for him. It was graded race that was run at a proper graded gallop and it was only his second run over hurdles.
“I’d say he’ll learn a bit today as well so we’ll take it one step at a time.
“I wouldn’t rule out the Fred Winter for him.”
