Rebel Fitz future still undecided

The racing future of Rebel Fitz is still up in the air but he is at least recovering well from serious injury.

Having undergone surgery on a leg injury in November, his recuperation has been far from straightforward.

While he is now in the clear, his trainer Mick Winters has no designs of attempting to get him to the track for the forthcoming National Hunt season, although there is a possibility of him returning in hunter chases in 2017-18.

"He's at my uncle's place where he's running about with yearlings and two-year-olds. He's loving it, he's boss of the place and he's happy as a pig in muck," said Winters.

"He's made a lot of progress but he can still be slightly tender some days.

"Two weeks back it was looking on the serious side but he seems to be over that now, thankfully.

"I don't think he'll be back this winter but we might bring him back the winter after and look at the Foxhunter or something. He was a very good horse on his day.

"He's in his element at the moment though, running free, and we aren't even thinking about racing."

Rebel Fitz won the Galway Hurdle in 2012 and the Powers Gold Cup in 2014.
