The defections of Tyrconnell (6/1) and Lake George (12/1) at the stalls saw the first split of the Cash Out Now Available On Horse Racing Multiples At BetVictor Apprentice Handicap go off over five minutes late. That won't matter to connections and supporters of winner La Novia (13/2 into 5s) though. Mulzamm put the pace to the race but he came back to the field from over a furlong out and the Michael Halford-trained and Ross Coakley-ridden La Novia eventually edged out Hey Pretty by three parts of a length.

The runner-up had to switch to deliver his challenge inside the last.

Tyrconnell and Lake George were withdrawn as they got upset at the gates and their absence necessitated a 15 Cent Rule 4 to all prices.

“In those races the draw is so important as there is nothing between any of them and it seems to be whoever has the bit of luck on the night," said Halford.

“She had a good draw and they went a right good gallop to thin them out a bit and she got the run through. It’s important not to get there too soon on her.

“I think there is another one for her here in a fortnight and she holds an entry in the February Sale in Goffs. That’s an ideal trip for her, and she’s very tough and genuine.

“She’s owned by Ger and Ann McDonald who had Golden Cross with us years ago.”

The Stewards enquired into an incident on leaving the back straight involving Mulzamm, ridden by S.M. Mooney, placed fifth and Invinsible ridden by G.P. Brouder, unplaced, where it appeared that Invinsible was tight for room and checked.

Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.

Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was caused by S.M. Mooney riding carelessly and therefore to be in breach of Rule 214.

Having taken his good previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended S.M. Mooney for 1 raceday.

The Stewards informed James M. Barrett, trainer that Lake George, would have to be recertified before being declared to run from stalls again.

A.J. Slattery, rider of Hey Pretty trained by John C. McConnell, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount had to check inside the final furlong.
