Savello got off the mark in good style in the beginners chase at Clonmel this afternoon.

The three principals in the betting raced prominently in the two-mile contest with Page Turner (3/1) taking along Savello (3/1) and 2/1 favourite Cadspeed

The Tony Martin-trained Gigginstown runner travelled best turning for home and hit the front at the second last.

Davy Russell soon asserted on his mount and he stayed on strongly in the closing stages to post a cosy five-and-a-half length victory over the front-runner.

Cadspeed, bidding to give Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh a fifth winner on the day, was well held in third when blundering at the last.

The winner, a smart sort over timber, was making his fourth start over fences and Martin said:-

“He's been pulling too hard and is only starting to relax now.

“He ran to the line today and hopefully he can build on that. He's always jumped well and did again today.”
