At the end of a session that saw two 14/1 victors and only one winning favourite, 20/1 shot Magna Cartor rounded things off on day three at Ballybrit with success in the Win Big With Tote Handicap.

'Shark' Hanlon's charge was never far away and he was tenacious in fending off Water Sprite up the straight.

Water Sprite was bidding to win the event for the second year running but at the finish she had to yield by a length and three parts to the Rory Cleary-partnered winner.

The Mees, bidding for a third winner on the card after Minella Beau and Exchange Rate earlier, had the third home in this — St Stephens Green (the 3/1 favourite).

"He's the horse that did the tendon in my leg — he's a nutter. He knocked me down in Cheltenham and then walked on me," explained Hanlon.

"I got him off Mark Loughnane and he told me to mind myself.

"You can't bring him into the parade ring. I asked the stewards here for permission to bring him straight from the yard out on to the track because he'd cause havoc in the ring.

"Rory gave him a super ride."

J.A. Heffernan, rider of St Stephens Green trained by Emmet Mullins, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount met with interference after a furlong and again at the turn into the straight.
