Shock win for Seanie in big Sales Race

David Marnane, who enjoyed big race success with Nocturnal Affair in the Portland Handicap at Doncaster recently, again grabbed the limelight when saddling Seanie to a 40/1 victory in the valuable Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sale Stakes.

Colm O'Donoghue held up the son of Kodiac, sporting the colours of Jamsie's owner Damian Lavelle, from his wide draw in 18 and waited until the straight before mounting a challenge.

The reaction was instant once O'Donoghue popped the question, and the gelding showed a blistering turn of foot to quicken clear.

He showed some greenness once in front but kept on well to beat the strong-finishing pair Absolute Crackers (14/1) and Azamata (9/2) by one and a half lengths and half a length.

The Richard Hannon-trained Three Am Tour was fourth, while 4/1 favourite Tough As Nails made a bold bid from the front but could find no extra inside the final furlong finishing fifth.

Marnane said, “He learned a lot from his debut at Tipperary and, from his home work, he's always looked very good. I always thought he was going to make into a fabulous three-year-old.

“He's got loads of scope, and is still very green and raw. There is a lot more improvement there.”
