Sir Lynx with Shane Hassett up, caused a 28/1 surprise in an all-action John Madden & Sons Handicap Hurdle at Ballinrobe.

Leader, Moving On fell, bringing down King High and Opening Nite at the fourth last. All were reported okay after that incident.

On the run-in Toretto and Sir Lynx battled it out with the latter edging on in the closing stages. The successful grey then held off the flying home Xsquared by three parts of a length.

Winning trainer Martin Cullinane said: "He was second in a maiden hurdle one time (at Tipperary in April 2012 when with Patrick Cody) but he lost his form. We tried him in point-to-points when we got him and it was on soft ground all the time.

"It's all about the ground with him.

"He fell here the last day but he had plenty of jumping experience.

"We'll work towards Galway now (the stable had three winners there last year). Georgie and Fantastic Gold might go there too, as well as a two-year-old maybe.

"The owners of this fellow (Sir Lynx) are my sister and her husband (A G Lawless) so I'm delighted for them." (TW & EM)
