The Shay Slevin trained Get More sprang a 14/1 surprise in the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Chase providing his rider Patrick Corbett with just his second success in Ireland.

Corbett, who is from Athlone, has been based with Rebecca Curtis in the UK for the last number of seasons and has rode up to thirty winners there.

Having raced mainly in mid-division the seven-year-old son of Milan was ridden into fifth after the fourth last and he improved into third at the second last.

He came with his challenge at the last and hit the front on the run-in going on to score by a length and a quarter. All Fired Up who was backed from 12’s to 8’s on-course, finished second under Paddy Kennedy for Sean Byrne while Imperial Joey (9/1) was a further two and a half lengths back in third under Andrew Ring for Philip Rothwell. Old Supporter and Sir Loujay were sent off the 10/3 joint-favourites but they could only manage fifth and sixth respectively.

Shay Slevin, who trains locally in Enniscorthy, said afterwards: "He’ll probably stay at that trip. Patrick thought that is his trip, two mile three to two and a half.

"He gave him a good ride and he will probably get further as he stuck at it well. He should improve for that run as it was he first run in a year. He loves that ground"
