Smashing, who finished down the field in the Lexus Chase, is set for a drop in trip.
The eight-year-old is in his first season with Mouse Morris having previously been trained by Henry de Bromhead and has been tried over three miles and three miles and a furlong so far this term.
However, with his best form having coming at shorter distances, connections will now refocus their sights.
"He's fine and we're looking at the Kinloch Brae Chase (January 19) in Thurles," said Morris.
"Coming back to two and a half miles might suit him a bit better."
