Smitty Bacall gained a third career win at Killarney today as the Shay Barry trained gelding landed the Dunloe Hotel & Gardens Handicap Hurdle under jockey Paul Townend.

The son of Marienbard had won or been placed on six of his last seven starts and today scored a length and a quarter success over Lasoscar

Afterwards Barry stated “he had a good run at Tramore the last day but Tramore doesn't really suit him. I was hopign it wasn't going to come too soon and Paul said he idled in front. He loves that good ground and wants a trip.

“He'll be a nice staying type next year and if the ground is good he'll go to Listowel for a staying handicap hurdle. We might then put him away for next year.”
