If The Cap Fits has been ruled out of the Cheltenham Festival after suffering a setback.

Harry Fry's six-year-old had been among the leading lights for the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle after winning each of his three outings so far this term, most recently triumphing at Kempton on Boxing Day.

However, a muscle tear has forced Fry to rule out a trip to Prestbury Park next month, with the handler setting his sights on Aintree in April instead.

He told www.harryfryracing.com: "If The Cap Fits will not run at the Cheltenham Festival due to a gluteal muscle tear.

"We had been targeting him at the Supreme Novices' Hurdle, the opening race of the four-day meeting.

"As disappointing as it is to be missing the Festival, we have to do what is correct by the horse and give him time to fully recover.

"We will now focus on getting him back to full fitness in order to defend his unbeaten record over hurdles at Aintree's Grand National meeting."
