Talitha toughs it out

Talitha Kum proved game in front as she claimed the mile rated race at Naas under Chris Hayes.

Paul Deegan's charge soon cut out the running in the five-runner contest but looked a sitting duck at the two furlong pole as Fortify cruised in behind.

The Ballydoyle horse didn't pick up inside the final furlong, however, and could only get within a neck of the Chineur filly.

The 7/1 winner had won a Listowel maiden last season before being well held in better company subsequently.

“She got it easy in front but Chris said that once Joseph (O'Brien) came to him he was always confident as he knew she'd battle well,” said Deegan.

“We weren't really expecting that. It was the perfect race to start back in but we would have preferred if it had been in another week.

“She done it well and will probably run in the Guineas Trial at Leopardstown now. She's a proper big filly – gorgeous and straight forward.

“I'm delighted for the owner (Manuela Martinelli from Milan). She's won twice now and unfortunately she hasn't been there to see her but she's not too well.”
