The Hard Hat is a tough cookie

The Hard Hat bounced back from a disappointing effort on his last start at Navan to score for Robbie Power & Colm Murphy in the sixth race on this evening's card at Wexford, the Broomhill Point handicap chase.

The Beneficial gelding hit the front after the last as he past Warhead and looked set for an easy victory. However he idled in front and let the aforementioned horse back into it, but under a strong Robbie Power drive he kept on to win by a length and a half at the finish at odds of 10/1.

The winning trainer stated afterwards “He wants every yard of 3 miles and he will go to Punchestown next for a staying handicap. He was a bit unlucky on his last start as he didn’t jump well.

"Anything bar quick ground is suitable for him. Robbie gave him a brilliant ride and he seems to be improving. He should be better over even further."
