Shipwreck was the clear-cut winner of the extended two mile five handicap hurdle at Downpatrick for local trainer Colin McBratney.

The seven-year-old mare was much too strong for her rivals as she climbed the hill 10 lengths to the good at 12/1 from 16s under Adam Short. Coole Craft came in second at 8/1, a couple of lengths ahead of Maureen's Star at 12/1.

Colin McBratney said: "The last day here she had been point-to-pointing and hadn't run over hurdles and Adam (Short) just felt she was jumping too big and was wasting a bit of time. She got to the top of the hill and he said she just gave a heave and didn't come down the hill that well.

"That bit of rain last night and this morning helped her. She was off a low weight and hopefully she will go and win again. She's entered for Perth next Saturday and she probably will go if she comes out of this okay.

"He gave her a good ride, he said he knew who to follow and he sat and got her filled up at the top of the hill. He followed Mags Mullins' horse (Getaway Rose) down the hill and away she went."
