Punters must be loving the return to beach racing at Laytown as Topadee one of the gambles of the day, landed a comfortable victory in the opening six furlong handicap.

Danny Grant sat just off pace-setting Kateeva and picked up the running two furlongs out before staying on stoutly for a two and a quarter length success for trainer Pat Flynn.

She was backed down from 7/1 to 7/2 this morning before going off at 4/1.

“She did it well and once the splits came it was all over. I even got there too soon,” Danny Grant said.

“She handled the beach well. She's a good filly and we've just been waiting on the ground for her – that's the key factor.

“That surface rides quick and even more so when the horses hear the noise they make – it keeps them keen. It's a true run gallop here as well.”

Veteran Toufan Express (6/1), who was left at the start, kept on well down the outside to take second with Ian Brennan in the saddle.

There was a dead heat for third between Calm Bay (12/1) and Thats A Fret at 14/1. Kateeva, the 10/3 favourite from 4/1, weakened after setting the pace to come in last.
