Preview ballinrobe 26th May

The second instalment of Ballinrobe's two-day meeting features the McHale Coranna Handicap Hurdle, in which Aidan O'Brien is double-handed.

The Ballydoyle handler sends out Marchese Marconi in an attempt to go one better than his second at Punchestown last month, and the son of Galileo gets 7lb from stablemate Plinth.

The latter has the burden of top weight but has mixed in hot company this year and should make his presence felt.

O'Brien takes the wraps off Captain Barbossa in the McHale Bale Wrappers Flat Race, but the 30,000-euro purchase concedes experience to Killarney runner-up Dromrue and Shouband.

There is a big prize up for grabs in the McHale Mayo National Handicap Chase, and Urano is sure to be popular with punters.

The Willie Mullins-trained seven-year-old arrives on the back of a good performance in fourth over a marathon trip at the Punchestown Festival and will attempt to prevent Ravished completing a hat-trick.

Foildubh's best days may be behind him but he showed much more sparkle when runner-up over two miles at Punchestown and is back on a feasible mark now.

Mullins also has good claims in the McHale Fusion 3 Plus Beginners Chase courtesy of Abbey Lane, who is used to mixing in better company than this.

All eyes will be on Off The Mark in the opening McHale Fusion 3 Novice Hurdle at 6.00.

A talented bumper performer, Christy Roche's charge returned from over a year off with an impressive hurdling debut success at Kilbeggan recently and he looks to have a bright future if his problems are behind him.

A last-flight fall prevented Royal Boru completing a quick-fire Perth double last month and he bids for compensation in the McHale F5500 Baler Handicap Hurdle.

The Gatechecker will have his supporters in the McHale Fusion Vario Maiden Hurdle following a near-miss at Killarney, but Gordon Elliott's bumper winner Mr Steadfast is unlikely to be a pushover on his first start over timber.
