The Noel Meade trained Wall Street Wally was another to benefit from the drying ground in the North, winning the Downpatrick Maiden Hurdle at Downpatrick today to give jockey Paul Carberry a double on the day.

Carberry, who partnered Cause Of Causes to win an earlier race, sat motionless on Wall Street Wally for most of the race before sending the gelding to the front after the final obstacle, eventually recording a two and three parts of a length win over Some Fiddle

Meade later stated “Wall Street Wally is very much a good ground horse and Paul (Carberry) said he struggled a bit on the soft patches today.

“I'm glad Paul kicked on when he did and he'll go for a handicap hurdle now – the handicapper shouldn't be too hard on him after winning today's race.”
