Dual Cheltenham Festival winner Weapon's Amnesty has been retired due to another injury.

The Charles Byrnes trained gelding won the Albert Bartlett Hurdle at the Festival in 2009 and followed up in the RSA Chase a year later.

He was plagued by injury since that victory and he only made his return to action in the woodiesdiy.com Christmas Hurdle at Leopardstown last month.

He pulled up in that contest and his trainer today announced his retirement due to another injury.

Byrnes said this afternoon: "He's got another slight injury unfortunately, it's not the old injury.

"It hasn't been straightforward getting him back. He takes a lot of work to get fit and it was always going to be a bit iffy.

"It's a shame as the formbook tells you he could have gone right to the top."
