Westerner Point just held on to beat Riviera Sun in the two mile one handicap chase at Cork.

He saw off Draycott Place after the third last but Riviera Sun looked a serious threat as he moved into second coming to the penultimate fence.

Riviera Sun was awkward at the last though, in his pursuit of Westerner Point. He soon got going again on the run-in and stayed on strongly but was a short head down at the line.

The winner, partnered by Phillip Enright, took the spoils at 4/1 from the 15/8 favourite.

Handler Eoghan O'Grady said: "He loves that winter ground, although we were very lucky that the favourite made a mistake at the last."

This gave Westerner Point a fifth victory from 17 appearances. It was his third over fences to add to a pair of hurdle successes.
