What a difference a day makes for Ask Susan

Plenty of bets were brought up on Ask Susan in the EY chase at Tramore.

The six-year-old mare was a 9/1 chance in the morning and contracted to 4/1 during the day before going off at 'Burlington Bertie 100/30'.

She made headway on the outer to get almost on terms with All Hell Let Loose at the second-last.

All Hell Let Loose held a narrow lead jumping the last, however, Ask Susan landed full of running and soon took over under Mark Enright.

She stayed on well to beat All Hell Let Loose (10/1) into second by half a length. Jaime Sommers who cut out most of the running finished seven lengths further back in third.

Trainer John Nicholson said: "We ran her last night and she couldn't lie up with them. I went out of here yesterday evening and said I won't run her.

"I went out to the yard this morning at half six and she had everything eaten. I let her out in the garden then and she tore around, so when I was going with the other lad (Delice Du Chenet) I said I'd bring her.

"She never jumped as well as she did today. She was in a handicap here on Sunday with top weight and I didn't want to run her. Mark couldn't ride her either as he is going to the All-Ireland (final).

"It's great. Mark puts in a lot of work with us. She is a very special mare and is named after my sister Susan. That's her third win here, she loves it here.

"She got a bad fall at Tipperary and was sore after it. We will try and get a bit of black-type with her and she could be a mare for the Kerry National. I wouldn't put it beyond her.

"I'm going into hospital on Tuesday to have my hip done, so I said I'd run them all this week!"

Ask Susan came in fourth in the ladies' maiden last night.
