Yaha Fizz repeated the front-running tactics that were successful at Naas earlier this month when taking the Athlumney Handicap Hurdle in impressive fashion at Navan.

Ryan Treacy ’s mount was clear for most of the two-mile event and, despite clouting the penultimate flight, the well-backed 4/1 chance galloped on strongly up the hill to score by seven and a half lengths.

There were a further 14 lengths back to 9/4 favourite Castlehume in third.

Winning trainer Eamon Delany said, “He’s just coming to himself. It has taken time but he settles now. He’ll have a few more runs over hurdles and then go back chasing. He was just unlucky a few times.”

Delany’s son Alan, who is the assistant trainer and part-owner of the seven-year-old, said “He’s improving all the time. He’s a big horse that was weak last year but has strengthened up unbelievably this winter.”
