Zabana got off the mark at the first time of asking over fences when taking the Ballymaloe Foods Beginners Chase at Leopardstown.

Andy Lynch 's charge had been progressive over timber last season, ending his campaign with a fine third to Jezki at Punchestown.

Davy Russell produced him to challenge two from home on his chase debut and the 4/1 shot stayed on well from the last to beat Blair Perone by a length-and-three-quarters.

6/4 favourite Tell Us More was five lengths back in third.

“I was afraid of the ground but he was fit and well. He is going to come on a bit from that,” said Lynch.

“Davy gave him a great ride and took his time. He jumped great for first time out.

“We think an awful lot of him. He doesn't show much at home but when we take him to the track he's brilliant.

“I've no plans yet but he could step up in trip.”

Russell added:- “Andy only has a handful of horses but the treatment they get is second to none. He deserves every success he gets.”
