Preview clonmel 27th Oct

Clonmel plays host to an intriguing seven-race card which kicks off at 2.15 with the Cahir Mares Maiden Hurdle.

Lisrose showed promise in a bumper at Wexford in May last year and has since won a point-to-point, but a lack of recent racing could allow Taraval to open her account.

Charlie Swan's mare got within two lengths of success when third at Fairyhouse and she looks the one to beat, though Black Empress and A Little Swifter may also have a say.

Mickelson has failed as favourite on two of his four starts in bumpers but he looks to have been found an ideal opportunity on his debut over obstacles in the Cashel Maiden Hurdle.

Noel Meade's charge won't have it all his own way, however, as Punchestown fourth Prince Chaparral and Dessie Hughes' newcomer Dale Street both look interesting.

One of the two most valuable races on the card is the Wilderness Chase, which features two last-time-out winners in Bacher Boy and On The Way Out.

The latter was mightily impressive when beating Stonemaster at Punchestown, while Bacher Boy took the spoils in more workmanlike fashion at Downpatrick.

Add in Grade 2 winning hurdler Knockfierna and a cracking contest looks in the offing.

The other contest offering over 10,000 euros in prize money is the Graham Norris Memorial Handicap Hurdle, where Your Busy attempts to get back to winning ways after finishing second over fences at Cheltenham.

His biggest challengers may come from the top end of the handicap, as Navan second Datokepe and Gordon Elliott's Martin Scruff loom as dangers.

Galway winner Noras Fancy clashes with Tramore scorer Ta Blazes in the Powerstown Desmene Handicap Hurdle, while the Munster Beginners Chase looks an open affair with any one of Fairwood Massini, Jewel In The Sun, Portrait King and Twelfth Of Never appealing as a possible winner.
