Johnny Murtagh capped a great day when Rich Coast landed the feature Listed race at Cork to add to the stable's great success with Royal Diamond at Ascot.

With the jockey-trainer on duty in England it was Niall McCullagh who was in the plate on the 5-1 shot in the corkracecourse.ie Navigation Stakes, and he sat second for most of the way.

Hot favourite Brendan Brackan took them along and the front pair pulled away in the straight, with Rich Coast just getting the better of the argument from a furlong out to score by a length and a quarter.

Only three of the five declared went to post for the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Race and there was a shock result when Aidan O'Brien's 2-11 favourite Expedition was well beaten.

The Patrick Prendergast-trained Candy Apples (4-1) set off in front under 10lb claimer Ben Dawson and had the market leader in trouble a quarter of a mile out before scoring by four lengths.

There was another odds-on reverse for Ballydoyle when John Constable had to settle for second behind Dermot Weld's grey Go For Goal (10-1) in the Coolmore Excelebration Maiden.

The pair ran in the same race at Roscommon last month, when John Constable finished well ahead in third, but this time Fran Berry took Go For Goal into the lead early on and never relinquished his advantage in a two-length victory.

The day ended with an O'Brien winner when Rip Van Winkle's full-sister A Star Is Born (7-1) got her head in front for the first time in the Cork Racecourse Facebook Maiden, rallying to hold Al Murqab by a neck in the hands of Seamie Heffernan.

Tom 'Socks' Madden picked up the first victory of his career when Willie McCreery's game grey Susiescot (15-2) pulled out the stops to hold Morga by a nose in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Handicap.
