Preview curragh 19th Aug

Order Of St George returns to action in the Comer Group International Irish St Leger Trial Stakes, the feature race at the Curragh on Saturday.

Aidan O'Brien's 2016 Ascot Gold Cup hero only narrowly failed to retain that crown at the Royal meeting this year and following an eight-week break, bids to land this race for the third year in a row.

Wicklow Brave is one of the few to have previously lowered the colours of Order Of St George, when landing the Irish St Leger itself in September, but the three-year-old Rekindling beat the Mullins charge here last time and he is the one most likely to spring a surprise.

The Ballydoyle camp will bid to kick off the meeting with a winner with Conquest, Baroness and the newcomers Queen Iseult and Erin all appealing in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden at 1.45

Conquest is the pick of Ryan Moore and the way she shaped from an unfavourable position at Galway last time suggested that a maiden should come her way at some point.

Moore gets in the leg up on Bond Street in the following race on the card, the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden, and his third to The Pentagon last time immediately jumps off the paper.

However, Kion caught the eye when shaping with promise on his Naas debut last month and normal improvement should see him involved.

Golden Spell acquitted herself with credit in Group Three company last time and seems sure to prove popular dropping in class for the Paddy Power Onside App Nursery Handicap.

Expect another bold bid from the daughter of Al Kazeem but Solar Wave was a comfortable victor at Gowran earlier in the week and she looks to be a filly on the upgrade.

Hunaina is the token pick in the Paddy Power Acca Insurance Handicap while Conversely will again bid to break her duck in the concluding Paddy Power Betting Shops Maiden.
