Review killarney 15th May

Gordon Elliott was on the mark with two of his useful recruits to fences when both Carlito Brigante and His Excellency won on their first encounter with the bigger obstacles at Killarney.

Carlito Brigante, winner of the Coral Cup at the Cheltenham Festival in 2011 but pulled up in the same race this year, was sent off the 2-1 favourite for the O'Keeffe O'Shea O'Connor Solicitors Novice Chase and never gave supporters a moment's worry.

Davy Russell was never far away from the pace and was going better than any of his rivals three out, taking command going to the last and pushing his mount out to score by a comfortable seven and a half lengths from Catcherinscratcher

His Excellency (7-1) is a tricky customer but he showed a fair amount of talent over hurdles and transferred that to fences in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Beginners Chase.

Russell did a good job in cajoling him along and there was no recourse to the whip as the tail-swishing four-year-old took the last alongside Cass Bligh and then went away to score by two and a quarter lengths.

Wayne Lordan was another to land a double, getting up close home twice on horses trained by Tommy Stack.

It was a Stack 1-2 in a thrilling finish to the Dunloe Handicap, with Croi An Or (5-2) grabbing the prize on the line by a nose from stablemate Kedleston who was the same distance in front of Suehail as the three flashed across the line together.

Lordan had earlier forced up Van Rooney (9-4 joint-favourite) to collar Custom Cut in the shadow of the post to take the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden by a neck.

However, the Lordan-Stack team didn't get the expected treble when 2-5 favourite Parkers Mill couldn't get in a blow in the www.goracingkillarney.com Race and finished last of three behind Edward O'Grady's smart hurdler The Real Article (3-1), who led all the way under Paddy Mangan.
