Review leopardstown 16th Apr

< On The Go Again regained the winning thread in the Listed Heritage Stakes at Leopardstown.

Michael Mulvany's five-year-old landed a gamble in the Irish Lincolnshire but then struggled over a mile and a quarter in testing conditions at Cork.

Back at a mile but raised in class, the 4-1 chance was settled nearer last than first but progressed to challenge for the lead a furlong out and soon went away, crossing the line with three and a quarter lengths to spare over Onenightidreamed < Jaega created a striking impression by making a successful introduction in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden.

Dermot Weld's 3-1 favourite sat outside the front-running Broadway until setting sail for home over two furlongs out, and she ran right the way to the line to account for Samasthiti by six and a half lengths.

Weld followed up when another newcomer Khalaab took the Leopardstown 'Club 30' Membership (C & G) Maiden in a stirring finish.

The 9-2 chance appeared set to win quite comfortably, but the long-time leader Sir Erec wouldn't go away quietly and Declan McDonogh had to be at his strongest to get Khalaab home by a short head.

The Weld pair of Shareva and Simiyna had to settle for minor honours behind Raintree (5-1) in the JJ Kavanagh & Sons Fillies Maiden.

Simiyna lost the lead to her stablemate when jinking left before the straight but, to her credit, battled back well, only for Patrick Prendergast's Raintree to finish better than both of them, scoring by three-quarters of a length.

Prendergast followed up courtesy of Triple Sec (12-1) in the Leopardstown Summer Pass Handicap, while David Marnane's good servant Settle For Red (10-1) was a game winner of the Spin 1038 Finale Handicap.< Grand Canyon has shown precious little since switching from David O'Meara to Amanda Mooney, but he put his best foot forward under Sean Davis to land the Bulmers Live At Leopardstown Handicap at odds of 25-1.
