Review thurles 12th Feb

Trainer Willie Mullins took the honours at Thurles with a near 68-1 treble thanks to Palace Merano Templers Hall and Blackstairmountain

The first two horses were ridden by stable jockey Ruby Walsh, while Mullins' son Patrick steered home the latter.

Walsh's 24-1 double was set up by Palace Merano (4-1) in the Cashel Maiden Hurdle.

The lightly-raced six-year-old got up on the post to short-head Phoenix Run who was a couple of lengths in front at the final flight.

"This horse had been crying out for a trip. He is all stamina and he'll be going over three miles before long," said County Carlow-based Mullins.

"He could even go over fences by the end of the season and he is a half-brother to that good horse of Paul Nicholls' Napolitain."

However, the stewards found Walsh had used his whip with excessive frequency and suspended him for one day.

Walsh had a much easier success on Templers Hall in the Horse And Jockey Handicap Chase after long-time leader Buckland Gold unseated Denis Hogan at the final fence.

That left the 4-1 favourite to come home by 21 lengths from Corno Di Bassetto

Jockey Andrew McNamara enjoyed a 55-1 double on Herkel (6-1) and Zanwood (7-1).

Herkel took the opening Urlingford Maiden Hurdle by a short head and a neck from Tawaagg and Grange Alainn

However, the latter's partner Kevin Coleman was banned for two days for careless riding. The stewards were also not satisfied with the manner in which he gave his evidence and fined him & euro;200.

McNamara was then on target in the Clonoulty Handicap Hurdle with Zanwood trained by his father, also Andrew. The gelding rallied to beat Top Mark by a length and a quarter to open his account at the 11th attempt.
