Connections of The Grey Gatsby have earmarked the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh as his next port of call after a fine run in Dubai.

The Kevin Ryan-trained grey proved no match for Solow in the Dubai Turf on the World Cup card at Meydan, but he nevertheless ran a good race to finish second.

Maxime Guyon took the Freddy Head-trained winner (9-4) to the front a furlong out and he powered clear in the closing stages for an impressive victory.

The Grey Gatsby had been reluctant to go into the stalls but stayed on well for second in the hands of Ryan Moore without ever threatening the winner.

Guyon said: "It's unbelievable. I knew I was riding a very good horse but you can never know what happens. He won so easy. It's my first Group One in Dubai, so I'm very happy. This is a very good horse."

Head added: "He's a great horse and is improving all the time. I knew he was very well, but this was his biggest test. He showed what a good horse he is. He's among the best I've trained."

Ryan said of The Grey Gatsby: " He ran well and it's a nice starting point for the season.

"We will look now to run him in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh and then take him to Royal Ascot for the Prince Of Wales's Stakes."

On The Grey Gatsby's last appearance in Ireland he produced a surprise result when overturning Australia by a neck in the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown.
