Ohh Lala sprang a bit of a surprise in the Friday BBQ Evenings Handicap as she got up close home to score under Tom Madden for Willie McCreery.

The daughter of Clodvil won her maiden at Sligo last year and she ran a fine race on her seasonal reappearance at Tipperary recently, finishing third to Great Wide Open.

Sent off an 8/1 chance she was prominent throughout on the rail and was ridden from the two furlong pole. Sexy Legs got to the front inside the final furlong and she looked the most likely winner but Ohh Lala battled gamely in the closing stages, getting up to score by half a length.

The runner-up was returned at 5/2 under Wayne Lordan for David Wachman while the well-backed favourite Aggression (9/4 to 7/4 on-course) could only manage a disappointing fourth under Andrea Atzeni for Michael O'Callaghan and owners Qatar Racing Limited.

Willie McCreery said afterwards: "She had a light weight and they went like the clappers which helped. She's a nice honest filly who tries her heart out and she had plenty of experience from last year when she ran plenty times.

"She is owned by Pat and Betty Cosgrave from Timahoe."
