There was heart-ache for connections and supporters of Lilly The Lioness when she fell at the last with the Tipperary Handicap Chase at her mercy, leaving the way clear for Andrew Lynch to complete a double at 'the junction,' aboard Venture Lazarus

Lynch, earlier victorious on Ordinary World for Henry de Bromhead, was on another Waterford trained runner here as he got the leg-up on Venture Lazarus for Kill-based Vincent Halley.

However they couldn't live with Lilly The Lioness and Paul Townend from between the last two.

Favourite Old Castletown had a little to do to reach Lilly The Lioness as well, when coming to grief two out, but the latter had it wrapped up when crashing out at the final fence.

Venture Lazarus, winning his first race since July 2011, was left to come home seven lengths to the good from The Conker Club

"We had luck on our side but he was well treated over fences," admitted Halley.

He added: "He got underneath a fence at Listowel the last day and just about got away with the ground today as he wants better ground.

"Where he runs next all depends on the weather, as he'll run in another handicap chase if the rain stays away.

"He's owned by Thomas O'Toole, from Galway."
