Roger Varian takes his hat off to Harzand but believes it is too early to be thinking of a potential clash with the dual Derby hero with his star older horse Postponed in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

Harzand is being aimed at the French showpiece in October by his trainer Dermot Weld after following up his Epsom success with victory at the Curragh and is now second favourite at around 6-1.

Postponed still heads the Arc market at a best-priced 5-1, but at the moment Varian is concentrating on preparing his Coronation Cup winner for the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on July 23.

"It's a long way away. It's not something to think about to be honest," said Varian.

"If we are fortunate enough to line-up in the Arc, we are going to be taking on the best horses in Europe and we've got a few races to get through before we all end up there.

"I admire Harzand. He's won two Derbies which is a tough and admirable feat in itself.

"I thought it (the Irish Derby) was a very good race to watch. I think it was nice to see the right horses finishing first and second to give substance to the Epsom form and the winner is very admirable," said Varian.

"I love his tough, never say die attitude."

Varian reports Postponed to be building up for the Ascot showpiece which he won last year when in the care of Luca Cumani.

"He's picking up his work in line to run in the King George. He had an easy time for 10 days post his win at Epsom," said the Newmarket trainer.

"He looks fantastic and he's right on schedule to peak for the King George so we're very happy with him.

""It's a great time of the year when the generations start to come together."
