Jockey Shane Butler returned from injury with a winner at Cork today, steering the Seamus Fahey trained Polar Present to win an incident-packed corkracecourse.ie (Mares) Maiden Hurdle.

Four of the 19 runners fell or were brought down during the race while three others pulled up but the winning daughter of Presenting avoided the trouble and in the end scored a length and a quarter win over High Nellie

Butler was returning having suffered torn ligaments in his neck in a fall at Kilbeggan on May 23.

Following the race, Fahey stated “it was an eventful race and it shows how much luck you need and it was also Shane’s (Butler) first ride back from injury and I’m delighted for him.

“She’s a big mare and hopefully she’ll keep improving for next year. ”
