Oisin Orr partnered his first winner since being crowned Champion Apprentice Jockey last week when steering the Dermot McLoughlin trained Commander Won to win the Crowne Plaza Championship Apprentice Handicap at Dundalk this evening.

Orr, who beat Killian Leonard 20-19 in the Apprentice Jockeys’ Championship, moved Commander Won to the front with two furlongs to race and in the end the pair scored a four lengths win over Mandarin Monarch

Trainer McLoughlin later stated “he (Oisin Orr) said he did it easy. He enjoyed himself and when he hit the front he said it was all over. He just stays galloping.

“We might step up in trip, he’s straight forward and we have a few options and we'll see how we go.

“He'll probably jump a hurdle in time but we might not run him on real winter ground but we'll keep him going and then maybe when it dries out, in February or March time, he might pop a hurdle again.”
