Shane Shortall should be back in the saddle at the weekend despite having a nasty-looking fall at Navan on Sunday.

Shortall suffered a cut head and nose, together with mild concussion, when kicked following his tumble from Hows Patsy at the fourth-last flight when holding a narrow lead in a two-mile handicap hurdle.

"Shane is grand. I spoke to him this morning. He's got a laceration to his forehead and his nose and had minor concussion," said Dr Adrian McGoldrick, the Turf Club's senior medical officer.

"He will be checked on Friday and be back riding on Saturday, all being well."

Conor Brassil is set for a longer spell on the sidelines after breaking his leg in a fall at Fairyhouse on Tuesday.

The 5lb claimer, son of Grand National-winning trainer Martin Brassil, was partnering Demi Plie in a two-mile handicap hurdle when his mount came to grief at the third obstacle.

McGoldrick said: "Conor suffered a fractured leg. He will be off for three months. He was operated on the following day by Mr Paddy Kenny, the orthopaedic surgeon."
