Pat Fahy's charge Call A Cab justified good support in the opening maiden hurdle at Punchestown this afternoon.

The JP McManus-owned gelding had shown promise in two previous outings and was backed from 7/1 in the morning, eventually going to post the 9/4 favourite.

Barry Geraghty produced him to challenge turning from home and he powered home on the run-in to record a two-length victory over Icario

The winner had been fourth behind Dortmund Park at Fairyhouse last month.

"It's great to get that. He's fairly backward, big and awkward and is a chaser really. He's a giant of a horse and will take time,” said Fahy.

"We'll give him a bit of time after this as I know he'll go light, and then find a winners' race. The main thing is he's going in the right direction, and he will definitely want further on better ground."
