Donnacha O’Brien is convinced Saxon Warrior did not run up to his best form when beaten in the Investec Derby and expects him to do better in the Irish equivalent at the Curragh on June 30.

Saxon Warrior gave the 19-year-old a first Classic triumph in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and he regular rides the Deep Impact colt in his work at his father Aidan O’Brien’s stable.

The young rider believes it is best to ignore Saxon Warrior’s run at Epsom where he was fourth to Masar.

“I don’t think that was his true running. He’s a lot better than that,” O’Brien told the Irish Times.

“The big occasion and the track can get to horses.

“You can forgive him one run and hopefully he’ll get back on track at the Curragh.”
